The James Suckling Wine Experience at Soneva Kiri - May 30, 2014 to June 1, 2014 - Koh Kood, Thailand

James Suckling joined forces with one of the world's leading "barefoot" luxury resorts to create an unprecedented and essential escape for the serious wine connoisseur: The James Suckling Wine Experience at Soneva Kiri.

From May 30th to June 1st, 2014, wine lovers from Asia and beyond convened at Soneva Kiri, the stunningly beautiful and truly sustainable resort on pristine Koh Kood in Thailand, for a long weekend of sipping, savouring and learning at the table with one of the world's most revered wine authorities.

Soneva Kiri arranged a two-night package that included a wine appreciation seminar and a picnic lunch on a deserted beach in a national marine park, as well as private plane travel to and from the resort from Bangkok, two wine dinners and one souvenir Lalique 100 Points glass.

On arrival at the resort on Friday, May 30th, guests sat down to the Italian Wine Collectors dinner at The View restaurant, which offered dramatic vistas from its cliff-top perch and a world-class menu prepared by Soneva Executive Chef Kevin Fawkes and Chef de Cuisine Mark Jones.

Dinner was followed by an al fresco Cinema Paradiso screening of the documentary "Cannubi: A Vineyard Kissed by God," a thrilling documentary which follows James' pilgrimage to Cannubi, a 250-year-old vineyard in the heart of the Barolo region of Piedmont, northwest Italy.

After breakfast the next morning, guests attended the 100 Point Lalique Wine Seminar: How to Taste Like a Wine Critic. "Beautiful yet functional" is how James describes his new wine glass, a joint creation with France's most esteemed crystal maker, Lalique.

A speedboat ferried guests to lunch - a picnic affair on a deserted beach at the national marine park on nearby Koh Rang island, a truly special happening that featured some of the world's best rosé wines and dishes prepared by Soneva's Khun Benz, one of the country's most celebrated Thai chefs.

En route to lunch, guests paused for reflection on beauty and a refreshing peek beneath the Big Blue at one of Thailand's most revered snorkelling spots.

Dinner was served under the stars at Soneva's observatory, which featured a 14-inch Celestron telescope, one of the finest ocular offerings in Asia. Guests were then flown back to Bangkok after breakfast the following morning, having wined, dined and reclined with the gods.
