Info request : 1989 first growth drinking windows?

Postby HankChampagne » Tue Jan 11, 2011 6:44 pm

Hello everyone,

I've got a quick question for the Bordeaux experts here. I have one bottle each of 1989 Chateau Lafite and Margaux. I've got little experience with first growths and having only one offs in the cellar, I have no experience at all with these two wines. I was just wondering if anyone has had these recently, and if they're approaching their peaks or should be held for awhile longer. Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I have had them both very recently. They are nowhere near their peaks. I would leave them five to seven years still, but if you can't wait, decant them at least two hours in advance.

Thanks for the reply James. I'll give these wines the cellar time. I don't want to rush them if they're not ready.
