What is your latest acquisition?

Postby orangedog » Sun May 08, 2011 7:33 pm

Just stumbled across a dusty bottle of 1994 Chateau Haut Maillet from Pomerol. Maybe not the most glamorous bottle, but with a bit of age I'm sure it will be fun to try.

Money's been tight recently, but some irresistibly-good auction prices convinced me to acquire the 1998 Kracher #13 (Chardonnay Nouvelle Vague) and Gaja's 1995 BdM Sugarille. No remorse whatsoever. 8-)

I think I'm going to give the Fuligni a try this week.

Local grocery store had a sale... all wine 40% off, and if you bought 6 bottles over $20 you got an additional 10% off. So I picked up

Cakebread Cabernet x3
Groth Cabernet x1
Franciscan Merlot x1
Willamette Valley Pinot Noir x1

Should be a good couple days of wine... although I'm probably going to let the Cakebread sit as long as I can.

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007. Amazing wine. This is drinking great now and will improve with some age. I keep snapping these up 2-3 at a time every few weeks. Beaucastel is the clasic CDP but usually needs 10+ years. The 2007 is so rich and the tannins so sweet yet it still has acidity but burried deep. A great wine to watch develop over the next decade+. WA 96 points...WS 96 points. Classic :!:

my wife is a merlot fan, and with all of the Mollydooker bottles hitting the shelves I picked up a bottle of 2009 Scooter Merlot for her.

I went with a 2003 Igino Accordini Amarone... a number of people have recommended Amarone to me, so I figured I'd give it a try. Not very expensive (about $45) and hopefully is a good introduction to Amarone.

pretty dang good! thinking a good next step may be a head to head against some of the full CA cabs. I can easily see my "collection" growing into CA cabs and Amarones.

Tonight I drank a 2009 Poet's Leap Riesling from the Columbia Valley AVA, WA. As a college kid I don't come across anything too dusty and spectacular. Though I did come across a bottle of 1996 Rauzan-Segla last week. The bottle I tasted had way too much brett. Holy barnyard...

Nice pick up! You're going to love the '05 St. Pierre. This was a wine that you could find around $40 on futures. Too bad they jacked the price starting in '09, used to be one of the best values in all of Bordeaux.
