My Father Limited Edition 2010. While I find myself more consistently enjoying smaller vitolas recently (e.g., Liga Privada Dirty Rat, Man o' War Puro Authentico, H. Upmann Mag 46), a great toro remains my preference for special occasions. Just the feel of this cigar in the hand is a thing of pleasure. It reminded me of the first time I wrote with a hefty Mont Blanc pen; it turns something ordinary and easily taken for granted into a moment of appreciation and respect. This is not the most complex stick Pepin has blended, but it's savory and deep with rich tobacco, dry wheat cereal, malt, and pepper, varying in degrees as the stick burns. That this stick also exhibited and absolutely perfect draw from beginning to end and only needed a couple, easy corrections made this a joy to smoke.

Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero (original blend/brown label, not the new blend/red-and-gold label called No.6). I love how cool lanceros smoke and how the flavor gets focused front-and-center on the tongue, but I do miss the billowy smoke and fuller flavor from even a good corona or fatter vitola. That being said, this was phenomenal - easily the most floral aroma I've ever gotten from a non-Cuban, and wonderful, ever-changing flavors as this 7 1/2-inch stick burned. A fantastic, rustic, shark-skin-textured wrapper and flawless construction.

I smoked a Fonseca Belgum RE Robusto last night, it was very good. Mild to med flavors that built as the cigar smoked. Kinda sweet, different, smooth, nice for a change of pace cigar.

Smoked my first ever Trinidad Ingenios 2007 LE today ..... sweet tea and coffee flavors fly at you right from the start .... very mellow in the middle third but builds up to a very FULL finish with flavors of nuts a dark coffee that linger on the pallet ...... very nice construction and definently ready to be smoked now.....ive seen these still for sale at many many shops but figured must be something wrong but the only thing wrong is ive waited too long to try these and I will be trying them more often or as long as I can find boxes availible. 91 points right off the truck!

A fav and definetly ready to smoke now. A bit spendy, but not out of line for a Trinidad EL.

Over the weekend: Tatuajue Petite Cazadores Reserva and Tatuaje J21 (robusto) Reserva. Both are outstanding for their rustic, savory flavors, but the J21's added complexity gives it the edge IMO.

Thanks for the review! I've wondered about these smokes, and in light of your review, I'll give them a try. I believe they have a laguito #5, and if so I'll give 'em a shot.

'Love Oliva's Serie V! If you ever get a chance to partake of their small Diadema (6x46, available only in the Serie V Special Sampler, vintage-dated), I highly recommend it!

Just finished my first Opus X Lost City Toro (so-called anyway; it's actually 6 3/4 x 48, closer to a Churchill by most producers). Outstanding smoke, IMHO: started out with lots of raisin bran notes and ended up reminding me of a cherry pipe tobacco I recall from my youth. So smooth and elegant, even my GF liked it! The absolutely top-drawer construction really added to the pleasure of this smoke. When the ash falls only twice from a 6+-inch cigar, that's some impressive rolling! 8-)

Would love to try it. Not sure why they didn't go regular production with the diadema. Also wish they'd make the V lancero in a maduro.

had an Opus X PL the other night... the wrapper tasted very distinctly of milk chocolate. that flavor didn't come through after lighting until 2" or so to go. the stick, en total, was ok... not what I would expect from an Opus. missing that raisin character... more wood than normal.

prior to that I had a Cohiba Lancero... it was gifted to me so I'm not sure of the age, but it was incredible! smooth, matured tobacco, no grass or bitterness. the wrapper was smooth yet... what's the right word - supple? like a cloth covered, worn in baseball mitt. not velvety.

both burned perfectly... not really fair comparing the two as I don't think the Opus was really representative of the line.

I'm currently enjoying a Sancho Panza Non Plus, very nice earthy type of little cigar. It is giving me some great spice and cocoa flavors with that distinct Sancho Panza salty note on the finish. It almost reminds me of a chocolate covered pretzel, the sweet and savory mix is quite nice, or a salted caramel candy, just delicious!
