2006 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor (Private Reserve). Let this slowly open over 8 hours. Deep dark full bodied wine. Light toast mocha and dark fruits. Rich voluptuous palate with tannins and acidity in balance. A beautiful south american cab that is good to go now or will surely age and improve over the next 5+ years. 94 points non blind. The Don Rules 8-)

2007 La Massa Giorgio Primo Toscana IGT. Let this young wine slowly open over 8 hours in the cellar(no decanting). I really like the changes made to Giorgio Primo. It is now a Cab/Merlot Petit Verdot blend with no Sangiovese. Black fruits and spice on the nose. The palate is smooth polished with acidity for balance. Classy and elgant with some power. Stéphane Derenoncourt consults with owner Giampalo Motta. This will be even better in 3 years. 95 points non-blind.(97 points JS/WS) :cheerstable:

Opened my first bottle of Dom Perignon today (2002 vintage). IMO it is not overrated. I'd be happy to spend $110 on this champagne any day.

Having a Lamb Roast tonight.

SO with it i am cracking a 1999 Turkey Flat Shiraz From the Barossa Valley in South Australia.
Might start with an 08 Chardy from Marlborough in New Zealand.

I'm not so sure i'm going to fit in so well on this part of the forum. :(

I live in the most isolated capital city in the world. Perth, Western Australia.

We don't have the access to the French and American wines that you guys have for a fair price, but we do have some fantastic wines.

Ended up cracking a 1998 Bowen Estate Cab Sav, Cab Franc, Merlot.
Way too young, but their rep told me i should drink it as it may be past its best.
Took two hours to open up and be nice!
(Not happy with the rep right now)...

Had a 2002 Kies Dedication shiraz decanting for about 90 minutes for the Lamb roast. (Thought we were eating beef tonight).
Dark cherries, chocolate, honeycomb.
Full bodied Barossa Valley Shiraz.
One of my favourites.

The top is from Coonawara, above from the Barossa.
I reckon i could have got another five years out of the first. The second i will drink over the next ten.

Can't remember exactly what i posted above. (I am still on moderator approval), but we chose a Margret river white blend.
Only three years old it was heaven.
A lovely blend of Honey dew melon, gooseberry and finishing with citrus.
Got to love lingering flavours...

Came home and had a Glenlivet 21 with a Bolivar Royal Corona.

Can i come off Mod approval yet?

2007 Tua Rita Giusto di Notri Toscana IGT.
Let this slowly open over 6+ hours in the cellar. Spectacular wine with deep rich fruits a nose that keeps you comming back for more. Lush but not over the top. Modern maybe but balanced and layered. This will surely improve but it's hard not to drink the remaining bottles of a six pack. 95 points non-bind. A happy fathers day. :cheerstable:

2005 Cyrus tonight. Beautiful California Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine needed a good hour to breathe to be able to get past the hotness from the alcohol. 91+.

2004 Fattoria Petrolo Il Torrione Toscana IGT. Nice wine with nose of red fruits and light spices. Smooth and balanced palate of plums and some vanilla. Drinking really well now. 92 points.

not tonight, but a recent highlight was a bottle of 2006 Quintessa - never had a wine from this winery before until pdnyc mentioned it, but it was excellent.

also had a 2007 Trefethen Merlot... very good, but I'm still on a high from the '06 Quintessa, so a possibly unfair shadow has been cast on other wines recently.

2004 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia. This wine blew me away! Oppened the day before but didn't get a chance to drink it. On the way to an intimate birthday dinner with my wife the Ornellaia and 2002 Dom I was surprised by over 30 good friends. The restaurant was not a BYOB so the bottles sat on ice in the car. Second night the wine was so complex layered with soft sweet tannins. The nose was equally as great with subtle spice notes and beautiful fruit. This is on par with the 97/98.

Peak winter here.

A chilly 5 degree Celsius.
Sat outside with an outdoor heater and guzzled a Coopers stout, followed up with an some 03 Victorian shiraz, then finished with an Abalour A'Bunadh Oloslo whisky and a 2yo Vegas Robaina Famosos.

Good night with friends.

I love Australia!

Saturday night to go with some lovely marinated, grilled baby lamb chops...2007 Neyers, Neyers Ranch-Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. About as good a cali cab as you'll find for $50. Infanticide to be sure, but still so seductive. Deep, pure, but refreshingly bright black cab fruit. Firms tannins compete with a rich, mouth-filling texture. Scant secondary flavors, all fruit but certainly no fruit bomb...all in beautiful balance. Not at all the type of Cali Cab that is lamented here by JS or others.

2006 Caymus ZInfandel. This Zif had some real structure to it....$40 per bottle. I think a much better value than the Cab for $80.

Tomorrow night will be a Merlot from Vineland Estates. A nice early gift to myself.

I love the Caymus Zin.
I agree that the Zin is a better value compared to the Cab, defiantly a wine i keep a few bottles of on hand just in case. I have never felt like I was getting ripped off when I poped a Caymus Zinfandel cork.

I totally concur. I also believe that their Cabernet tastes like Zin so why pay double or more?

Tonight I'm drinking a 2007 Chateau de Chamirey Mercurey Rouge.

I'm totally new to Burgundy, so I don't have much of a frame of reference with which to compare this wine (I selected the bottle at a sales associate's recommendation). All I can say is that I'm enjoying it very much, and I look forward to delving deeper into Burgundy.

2000 and 2005 Canyon Wind Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon left over from this weekends' vertical tasting. The 2005 is still showing nicely, but I wish the 1997 bottle hadn't been the first (and only) empty the night of the tasting.

Recently had a 2005 DuMol Chardonnay and a 2007 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Predictably, they both performed well, but the KB really got people's attention! I think I've won Sarah McLachlan over to CA Pinot Noir. 8-)

1997 Jacaranda Ridge Cabernet.

Was perfect with the ossabuco!

Lovely and soft. Hints of mint and Eucalyptus. Leather, plum, cherry. All soft and complex like. Medium bodied and an absolute treat.
Read recently it was at its peak, so decided to crack it.

Wish i had more.
