2007 Ruffino Modus Toscana IGT. Bought this over a year ago(first bottle). What a great wine for under $30. Beautiful fruit seamless intigration of tannins and acidity. Long and more complex than wines many times it's price. Lot's of talk around this wine as James rated it 96 points while many others gave it far less. Should have gone with Sucklings evaluation. I only bought six but discovered a new wine.
Thank you James :rasisered:

2009 Château Cap de Faugères
Sweet, concentrated dark fruit is nicely balanced by toasty espresso grounds & charcoal-like earthiness on the nose and palate. Tannins have a presence but aren't bitter. An enjoyable wine.

I wish that my webcam could capture the beautiful golden color of this gorgeous Burgundy, especially how it looks when you swirl it in the glass.

2005 René Bouvier "Le Clos" Marsannay
A fresh, clean nose (like deeply inhaling a fresh breeze) with aromas of raw honey. Crisp and tangy on the palate -- it seems to dance on the tongue. (Think of the feeling you'd get on your tongue if you were to crush a mandarin orange in your mouth and roll it around.) Citrus-y flavors. Great value -- you can't ask much more of a $30 white Burg.

Even better after an hour in the decanter -- the beautiful honey aroma is still completely intact.

This is precisely why people say "different strokes". I think this wine sucks. I bought it because of the review. I should have known that years of disappointing Ruffino wines (gold label, parchment, Cabreo il Borgo) should have been warning enough. But no, I caved. It's nothing but bitter astringent tannin and no fruit. It's so oaked it left splinters in my tongue - and I don't mind oak. Why kill all that nice fruit with barrique?

Wanna trade for my last bottle?

I was surprised by the wine :o . It showed well on the second night as well :? Maybe it was the fact I layed it down for a year before trying. James did recomend drinking after 2014 :?: All I know is it showed beautifully and at under $30 I wished I would have bought a few more. Maybe this is a case of a wine exceeding it's pedigree. I have not been impressed with Ruffino wines in the past as well. This one is the exception for me :rasisered:

2007 Vietti Barbera d'Asti la Crena. So young but soo beautiful. I love La Crena and the 2007 is one of the best vintages in recent years. Such sweet fruit with acid and tannins for balance. This is simply a great barbera. It will only get better and peak around 2017. I bought a case for $35+tx/btl. :rasisered:

2008 Chateau Le Thil (Pessac-Léognan)
Full, dark nose of damp, smoky earth. A hint of barbeque smoke. The palate follows suit, more earth than fruit, with drying tannins that are slightly aggressive around the edges, but not unpleasant. Some dark fruit peeks through.
I'm liking this wine, especially for $20~

(At room temp, the smallest bit of heat from the alcohol creeps through -- drink at the proper temp. Best after at least 1 hr decant.)

I'm meditating a little bit after a great evening listening to Vittorio Fiore and tasting his great wines... WOTN was a 1996 Il Carbonaione Poggio Scaletta... something to remember

Right now: 2005 Villa Arvedi Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella just to end the evening well.

2006 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova. Opened earlier in the day and splash decanted before bringing to diner with my darling wife Rita. After a 375 of Bollinger special cuvee NV the wine was complex with beautiful fruit and polished tannins. This went great with the filet mignon topped with chevre brie. I left over a 1/3 of the bottle to try tonight. A young Brunello that will benefit from 3-4 years. 96+ points on night one. :rasisered:

2000 Doyard Collection de l'An I Blanc de Blancs. Beautiful golden color. Granny smith applesauce, walnuts, great citrus on the back palate. Great wine.

2009 Favia Rompecabezas - full-bodied, but showing excellent lift and refinement. I plan to give the next at least 2 years. 2001 Ojai Syrah Melville Vineyard - still showing impressive youth. Dark fruits, meatiness, and a long finish. Outstanding, for sure. 2004 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir The Upper Terrace - big, saturating fruit, lots of acid and tannin still to resolve. Again, I say give it a couple years.

2004 Alban Viognier. Deep golden color. Honeysuckle and apricots on the nose. Dried apricot, nuts and kerosene flavors. Bought on clearance and definitely lost its freshness and past its prime, but very drinkable. Drink up if you have them.

2003 Chateau Potelle VGS Cabernet Sauvignon. Good red color still. Cedar and red fruits. Medium body with well-integrated tannins. Long finish. Hold for at least 2-3 more years; will get better.

2008 Maysara "Jamsheed" Pinot Noir (Oregon)
On the nose: underbrush/dirt mixed with that unmistakable fresh, slightly tangy "pinot noir" fruit smell. As it opens, the nose blossoms into a potpourri of baking spices, reminiscent of my favorite Volnay. Delicious smelling~
And the palate doesn't let down, with not-too-tangy red fruit. Elegant, easy to drink. An excellent, quintessential Pinot Noir!

2007 Caprili Brunello di Montalcino. Checking in on the 2007 vintage. Quite approacable for such a young wine. Beautiful nose soft and complex palate and a medium long finish. At around $40(46.25-10%/saq sale)it is a relative bargain for a Brunello. 92+ :)
