Kyle's Video Blog: Bonny Doon Vineyard
June 20, 2014
In this edition of Kyle’s video blog, he sits down with Randall Grahm, founder of California’s Bonny Doon Vineyard. Though Randall has established himself as a top winemaker when it comes to fine wine, he admits he’s been full of insecurities. As one who ventured to make pink wine 25 years ago, he acknowledges his former concern about the color of the wine (making it just the right shade of pink) and how it, being a byproduct of improving his red wine, wasn’t true vin gris to begin with. Now, of course, Randall has assured the vin gris is proper, and has refined the wine into what it is today.
Continuing on with discussion of his other wines, when cutting his teeth with winemaking, Randall discloses, “I made pretty bad pinot noir.” This led him to using grenache, which has in turn helped put Bonny Doon on the map.
