Bordeaux 2012 En Primeur: Petrus Does It Again

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

"This has to be one of the wines of the vintage, but of course, I still have 10 days to taste," states James after tasting a barrel sample of the legendary Chateau Petrus, and after a long day of tasting on the Right Bank in Bordeaux. Three weeks later, things seem to be in place. Petrus is one of the two wines of the vintage for the 2012 En Primeur campaign. Check out the tasting report here

In this video, Olivier Berrouet, winemaker at Chateau Petrus, explains the amazing result achieved with such a challenging vintage. Rains and low temperatures during flowering considerably reduced the crop. A moderate drought followed during the summer months and up to the harvest. But the combination of the absorbing capacity of Petrus' mystifying clay and low yields produced helped achieve the right concentration with the grapes.

Watch the video to find out how an amazing vintage is produced during such a climatic, challenging year.
