I was impressed with the 2008 from St.-Emilion’s Troplong Mondot from the minute I tasted it from barrel in Spring 2009. So I had to go back to the property yesterday and taste the wine from bottle with one of the owners, Margaux Pariente. I was fascinated to find out that the winery had been refurbished in time for the 2008 harvest, and what a difference it made. Margaux said that it enabled them to make a more refined red with fine tannins and delicate fruit. It’s all about harmony and elegance now at Troplong, and the 2008 really shows this.

2008 Château Troplong Mondot St.-Emilion: The wine shows plenty of tobacco and vanilla character with chocolate and berries. Full body, with super fine tannins. It’s so long and refined. This is a beauty and needs at least three years of bottle age. 93 points.
