Monthly Tasting Reports

Our July tastings extended from the rolling hills of Sonoma County in California to the lush riverine valley of the Rheingau in Germany to the cloyingly picturesque region of Chianti Classico in Italy, and they all had one thing in common: they delivered a handful of perfect-scoring wines and some eminently fresh and drinkable offerings.

We delved deeper into the mysteries of Super Tuscans during our June tastings of 2,084 wines, with Californian cabernet sauvignons and pinot noirs from the 2022 and 2023 vintages also providing plenty of highlights.

Our tastings of 2,464 wines in May brought a wealth of delicious offerings from 11 countries, but it was Alsace, France, where we hit the jackpot, uncovering four perfect-scoring bottles and leaving Senior Editor Stuart Pigott gushing over the dry white wines from Alsace’s 2023 vintage.

The JamesSuckling.com team tasted 2,164 wines from 10 countries in April, uncovering three perfect-scoring bottles and an abundance of excellence from France, Italy, the United States, Argentina and beyond.

Although our March tastings didn’t uncover any perfect-scoring wines, they did underline that exceptional examples can always be found from a broad array of wine countries and regions, and spring from an equally effusive mixture of varietals and blends.
