Monthly Tasting Reports

Our tastings of 1,814 wines in May included a whopping nine 100-pointers and 10 99-pointers, with all the top bottles from Napa and Sonoma except for one singular Oregon pinot noir.

Our April tastings of 2,695 wines from 14 countries included our broad sweep of Bordeaux en primeur 2025, first-rate cabernet sauvignons from Napa Valley and Washington State and a pair of mouthwatering chardonnays. We handed out perfect scores to three of these offerings, and there were eight potential en primeur 100-point scorers.

If you were ever looking for a month overflowing with superior wines, March had it, with eight bottles we rated 100 points and 18 that scored 99 out of the 2,648 offerings we tasted from 18 countries. Of the perfect scorers, three were from Argentina, three were from California and one each came from Italy and France.

We rated 1,984 wines from 13 countries in February, but it was Napa Valley, California, where much of our attention was focused as we uncorked even more awesome bottles from the region’s superb 2023 vintage and had our first glimpse of 2024.

Although our January tastings of 2,301 wines at JamesSuckling.com didn’t unveil any perfect-scoring bottles – for the first time in a long time – what they did give was a big-time view of Bordeaux’s 2023 vintage and show even more excellence from the same year in Napa.
