How My 100-point Scale For Rating Wine Works

January 13, 2011

I have been using the 100-point scale for rating wines since the mid-1980s. For me, it’s the clearest and quickest way to differentiate wines, particularly when you have dozens, or even hundreds of wines to taste. I equally enjoy describing wines and writing my opinions and feelings about them. That’s why I use both.

In this video, I tried to briefly describe my history with the 100-point scale, and how I use it. Of course, it is not a science, but I use an arithmetic calculation when I am rating most wines. I don’t just pull points out of the air, like some people may. I hope you find this useful and informative.
