Bordeaux 2011: La Mission's Perfect White?

March 27, 2012

The dry whites in 2011 are a big success story for Bordeaux in this good but not great vintage. I have tasted so many beautiful whites with richness yet an underlying brightness and liveliness. The tension and vivacity of these wines is fabulous. No place so far was more obvious of this than my visit to Château Haut-Brion where I tasted the whites of the châteaux as well as its sister property La Mission Haut-Brion (formerly called Laville Haut-Brion.)

The 2011 La Mission Haut-Brion white was so amazing that I scored it a tentative 100 points. I tasted the wines with the owner of the two châteaux, Prince Robert of Luxembourg, and winemaker Jean Philippe Delmas. Check out the video.
