2019 Wine Travel Log #3: Tasting Château Pétrus

Thursday, January 17, 2019

In the video above I’m talking to Olivier Berrouet, winemaker at Château Pétrus, about the outstanding quality of the 2016 vintage. I was a little in shock as he grabbed our GoPro and interviewed me and then I turned the camera back on him! Fun!!

I tasted the wine at the 2017 en primeur and gave a barrel score of 99-100. Now, tasting it again as it gets ready for the market, it certainly lives up to that rating. Watch the video to see how he describes the qualities of this wonderful wine.

I am travelling through Bordeaux at this moment, visiting dozens of wineries and tasting hundreds of wines. We are lucky to be the first to be able to report back to you with the scores and our thoughts on this fantastic vintage. Watch this space for those reports, and for more videos and updates. Next up: Burgundy.
