James had an amazing tasting of the icon wine of Portugal, Barca Velha, in Napa Valley with winemaker Luis Sottomayor and President Fernando da Cunha Guedes of Sogrape. The wine is made with grapes from the upper Douro and combines richness with firm and linear tannins and acidity. It is usually released eight to ten years after the harvest and only in great years. It’s a semi-unicorn wine because it has only been released 20 times since 1952. The most recent vintage on the market is 2011.
