Barolo 2010: Gianni Gagliardo

Thursday, August 20, 2015

Gianni Gagliardo is a family owned winery that was first started by Gianni Gagliardo’s father in law, Paulo Colla. After working with him for more than 10 years, Gianni acquired the estate in the 1980s and simultaneously changed the estate's name to his own. The winery, located in La Morra, is today one of the top producers in the region.

In this video, Stefano Gagliardo, winemaker and co-owner, reflects on the virtues of the 2010 vintage in Barolo. As Stefano comments, one of the defining features of quality in the 2010 vintage was that at the time of harvest, the fruit, although reserved, was able to maintain freshness without opulence or excessive richness. This has resulted in wines with great purity and approachability, but also delineation and structure.
