Bordeaux 2009: Conversation with Paul Pontallier of Château Margaux

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Château Margaux, the famous first growth, made one of the wines of the vintage for me. It might be THE wine of the vintage. During my many visits to dozens of wine cellars in Bordeaux, my conversation with winemaker and head of Margaux – Paul Pontallier – was one of the most memorable. His description of the 2009 vintage as well as his wines is impressive. I only hope you get to taste the wine soon.

As he says, “The real challenge is with the 2010.” That is an amazing wine as well. I also like what he has to say about when to drink 2009 and how it compares to the legendary 1929 vintage.
