With predecessors like the 2006 and 2007 Brunello di Montalcino, the 2008 vintage has some pretty big shoes to fill. After having tasted more than a hundred 2008 Brunellos, James found the vintage to be quite inconsistent in comparison to the two outstanding previous vintages. 2008 was a cold and moderately temperate year, which translated into wines of high acidic content.
In this video, James discusses the 2007 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio All' Oro Riserva and the 2008 vintage in general with managing director Enrico Vigliecho. Banfi's Brunello were among the best in the 2008 vintage. According to Enrico the 2008 vintage is a wine where rather than great structure like in the 2006 and 2007, you find elegance and finesse.
James believes that the Banfi 2007 Poggio All'Mura as well as Poggio All'Oro are superior to their 2006 counterparts. Watch the video to find out why.
