In this video, Frederic Engerer, president of Pauillac First Growth Chateau Latour, describes Latour's 2010 vintage. He defines the 2010 Grand Vin de Chateau Latour as "monumental" -- like a column, he emphasizes. For Frederic, this is a result of the precision of the tannins and a solid structure that holds on from beginning to end.
Regarding Les Forts de Latour, Chateau Latour's second wine, he commented that it is one of the best second wines ever made at Latour. Frederic concludes that it has "a grand vin quality in the backbone and length that is hard to get."
When asked what he finds is the difference between 2009 and 2010, Frederic replied, "It is a good problem to have." Because although different in form, both the 2010 and 2009 vintages are of outstanding quality. This duality, comments Frederic, makes it hard to decide, and will stir extended debate among wine lovers -- just as the 1928 and 1929, and 1959 and 1961 vintages did.
