Chilean Wine: Viña Montes' Winemaker on Chile's Potential and Diversity

Friday, August 22, 2014

Viña Montes was founded in 1988 by Aurelio Montes, owner and president of Wines of Chile, and Douglas Murray. At the time, Chile was known for its inexpensive wine and was not a qualitative reference in the world. With Montes, Aurelio sought to change this perception and create a market for Chilean fine wine. Today, Montes owns five estates throughout Chile and is one of the leading wineries in the country.

In this video, Jorge Gutierrez, winemaker at Montes, explains that Chile is relatively unexplored when it comes to possible winemaking sites. Jorge believes that Chile's potential lies in its diversity and its uncharted winemaking sites. Watch the video for the full interview, and click here for James’ recent tasting report on Chile.
