The owner of Domaine de Chevalier, Olivier Bernard, has done a remarkable job improving the wines of this great Bordeaux estate in the Pessac-Léognan through long and methodical renovation of the vineyards and meticulous winemaking. He is one for traditional-styled Bordeaux with structure and finesse.
I tasted four vintages of his red wine with him: 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2009. It was right before he started harvesting the 2010, and the 2009 was tasted from barrel. The 2009 appears to be his best ever.
DC is better known for its structured and powerful dry white Bordeaux by many wine collectors. But its reds are now fast-tracked for stardom. So wait and see.
