In Case You Missed It: Orignially posted December 11, 2010
Dominus Estate is one of the most beautiful wineries on Earth to me. Its ultra-modern, minimalist shape is so Zen in nature that I often feel the wines take on a similar character. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based reds are firm, stern wines that are almost European-like. It’s the vision of Bordeaux’s Christian Moueix, whose family owns such estates as Petrus, Trotanoy and Lafleur-Petrus. I visited the property last September in close to 110-Fahrenheit weather, but the dry-farmed vines looked perfect! Surprisingly, I preferred the 2006 and 2008 to the 2007. Dominus is a different vineyard than others in Napa due to its pedigree as arguably the oldest vineyard site in Napa Valley. It’s also known as the great producer of Ingelnook Cask Selection from the 1940s and 1950s.
