Cottanera is the largest estate in this part of the Etna region. With 65 hectares of vineyards, originally Cottanera's main focus was on international varieties, however, over the past few years their focus has moved towards the autochthonous varieties Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. The Cottanera estate is located on the northern slope of the volcano at an altitude of 700 metres.
In this video James met with owner Mariangela Cambria to discuss the trajectory of the winery and their recent shift towards more autochthonous varieties as well as some of the characteristics that make the slopes of Mount Etna a unique wine growing region.
