In this second segment on Graci wines, James and Alberto Graci, owner and wine maker at Graci, tasted a number of wines at Graci's cellar. Etna is fundamentally known for its red varieties Nerello Mascallese and Nerello Capuccio, but they also produce amazing whites from the Carricante variety. The wines were surprisingly floral and mineral, reminding James of a Puligny-Montrachet, but then again its not Chardonnay, its Carricante. And as Alberto rightly states, Carricante is after all, the right medium to express the Etna terroir. Not because it is the autochthonous variety from this region (according to Alberto, Nerello Capuccio does not share this capacity) but because there is in the result, an unexplainable symbiosis between what the land offers and the ability of the fruit to express it. Watch the video for the full story on Graci's wonderful whites. Enjoy!
