Hong Kong’s Biggest Italian Wine Tasting Reaches 1,200 Wine Lovers

Wednesday, December 1, 2021

One of Hong Kong’s most eagerly anticipated wine tasting events concluded last month, putting 180 of Italy’s top wines in front of more than 1,200 wine lovers and wine professionals in the city.

Great Wines of Italy 2021 Grand Tastings and Masterclasses, the 10th anniversary edition of this popular event run by JamesSuckling.com, was the biggest event focused on Italian wines this year in Hong Kong. The Grand Tasting took place over two jam-packed days in the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, and featured a who’s who of Italian wine; names such as Bruno Giacosa, Castiglion del Bosco, Eredi Fuligni, Livio Sassetti, Marchesi Frescobaldi, Poderi Aldo Conterno, Roberto Voerzio, Siro Pacenti and Valdicava.

For the full list of participating wineries, plus their featured wines, with scores and tasting notes, you can view and download the official event guidebook here.

The Grand Tastings took place over six sessions, and ended with a late-night Tasting Party with live DJ and expansive views overlooking Hong Kong harbor.

The event also included 14 special masterclass workshops, hosted either by a member of the JamesSuckling.com tasting team, or James Suckling himself, which took place at the James Suckling Wine Central wine bar and restaurant in the centre of Hong Kong’s Soho district. Topics included “Understanding 100 Point Wines," “Great Merlots of Tuscany,” “Organic Wines – a New Era,” “Understanding Gran Selezione” and “Super Tuscan 2007 Vintage Tasting,” to name a few.

As usual now for this new format of event, the winemakers and winery owners also sent in personal video tasting notes about their wines, which featured on the James Suckling Instagram and Facebook channels, each reaching tens of thousands of followers across the world.
