Château La Fleur-Petrus: 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009

Bordeaux’s La Fleur-Pétrus is located behind the vineyards of the legendary Lafleur and just a stone's throw away from Pétrus. I have always been a fan of the complex yet refined red. I remember drinking a number of unbelievable bottles of 1959, 1964 and 1971. The racy wine ages wonderfully. It’s not about power here; it’s about length, intensity, and class.

I visited the Pomerol estate late last year with Edouard Moueix, whose family owns the small chateau. Edouard lives at the property with his American wife. The wine is usually a blend of about 80 to 90 percent Merlot, and the rest is Cabernet Franc. I tasted 2009 from barrel, as well as 2005, 2003, and 2000. I found a number of surprises and confirmations of excellent quality.
