Léoville Poyferré: 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009

Thursday, December 29, 2011

This is an interesting video from last year when I visited the winery of second growth St. Julien Château Léoville Poyferré. Three of the wines – 2000, 2003, and 2005 – were in bottle. The 2009 was still in barrel. I will taste the 2009 in Bordeaux in a few weeks.

In any case, you can see from the tasting that I think the reds of Léoville Poyferré are outstanding – particularly the 2009. In general, I like the way the wines of LP are structured yet remain soft and silky. They always have a wonderful and attractive mouthfeel. And they are very drinkable, even when young.

I tasted with the owner of the property: Didier Cuvelier. The video was done mostly in French.
