Wines from the Etna: Marc de Grazia introduces Etna

Monday, November 5, 2012

This will be the fist of a series of videos on the incredible Mount Etna region in Eastern Sicily. Over the past ten years wines from this area have gained increasing popularity with the single parcel bottling of the autochthonous varietals Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante. The growing sites are unbelievable, lush and green vineyards surrounded by dead lava flows and the rugged moonscape characteristic to this area. It truly is an incredible place and the wines will surprise with their incredible finesse and elegance as well as aromatic complexity.

In this video, Marc de Grazia proprietor of Tenuta Terre Nere and one of the pioneers of the Etna, explains what makes this area a unique wine region. Marco also brought attention to the particular properties of the different vineyards by bottling single vineyards of Nerello varieties. You must take into account that 300,000 years of volcanic eruptions have created endless soil variations on the slopes of the volcano. He also explains the topography of the area and how this affects the wine as well as the different soil compositions throughout the region. For us it was an incredible experience to travel through this area and learn about its wines. Enjoy the video and get ready to discover this unique region.
