Mexican Wine: The Quiet Winemaker of Mexico

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Christoph Gartner is the winemaker of Vinisterra, one of the leading small wineries in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico. He is originally from Switzerland and studied winemaking there. He fell in love with the wine region of Baja California almost 20 years ago.

His wines have a European touch, emphasizing finesse and structure instead of power and fruit. He also releases his wines a few years later than most wineries, since he wants them to be ready to drink when purchased. You can understand his sincerity and seriousness as a winemaker with the conversation in this video.
