Norrel Robertson MW’s El Escocés Volante (The Flying Scotsman)

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

Is this a film set of John Ford’s The Searchers, or a vineyard in Calatayud, Spain?

Norrel Robertson MW arrived in Calatayud in 2003 and founded El Escocés Volante (The Flying Scotsman). He stands in his garnacha vineyard, El Cismatico, in Armantes to introduce the terroir to Senior Editor Jacobo Garcia. The soil varies from limestone and pudding stones to slate. The weather is extreme, with cold winters and dry, hot summers. Norrel’s reds are vivid, with exuberant fruit, but with racy, harmonizing acidities, and are worth seeking out.
