Palmer: 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009

Monday, January 9, 2012

The wines of Château Palmer in the Bordeaux appellation Margaux are very special. For centuries, they have made sleek and structured wines that have a wonderful capacity to age, with a subtle and refined character. The 1961 Palmer is legendary as well as the 1983.

Yet of recent, under the direction of CEO Thomas Duroux, the wines have become a little bit more concentrated and layered with and impressive mouthfeel.  It’s usually a blend of mostly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal parts with a splash of Petit Verdot. I think that the decade of 2000 is Palmer’s best ever.

Check out this tasting video. The 2009 was still in barrel.
