Petrus: 2009 From Barrel

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Château Petrus is the legend. The red is made almost entirely of Merlot and exhibits amazing richness and strength with subtle finesse. And it ages incredibly well. I tasted the 2009 from barrel at the property in Pomerol just before the 2010 harvest with the estate’s winemaker Olivier Berrouet. The wines reminded me of such great Petrus as 1989, 1970, and 1959.

Olivier is an articulate and fascinating man. His father, Jean-Claude, was the winemaker of Petrus until a few years ago. What a winemaking family! Enjoy the tasting and comments.
