Retail Tasting: La Fortezza
I had a fun tasting this winter with the guys from Enoteca La Fortezza in Montalcino, the key village for the production of Brunello di Montalcino. Shop owner Fabio Tassi and his colleague Andrea Ugolotti choose some fascinating wines. A number of them I had never tasted before. They went large – no surprise there – on Sangiovese.
Fabio has a big American following at his shop which is located in a medieval fort at the highest point in the village. He always has a great selection of current as well as old vintages of Tuscan reds, particularly Brunello. I enjoy watching this video because it shows how Italian merchants really love to taste the wines they have on offer and they describe them in a much more emotional way than some merchants in North America or Asia. Che bello!
