Saxum: The Wine

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Saxum is rocking it in California’s winemaking scene. Honestly, I found some of the wines a few years ago slightly overdone, but I find the recent vintages gorgeous and balanced – particularly 2008s and 2009s. For example, I tasted a pure 2009 from a concrete vat that showed fabulous fruit, yet gorgeous citrusy acidity and mineral notes. There may be more upside to 2009 at Saxum than 2008, but for the wines in bottle I tasted, the best was the 2008 Saxum James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock.

Check out the Saxum tasting notes in my first tasting report on California’s Central Coast.
