In Case You Missed It: Originally posted December 18, 2010
I was so excited yesterday to taste my first samples of 2010 Bordeaux. If you haven’t heard, the vintage is supposed to be another monument for France’s premier wine region following what I think is the best modern vintage ever – 2009. I was in Bordeaux last September and the grapes I tasted and saw picked looked superb quality. So it looks very true.
In any case, I had stopped in yesterday to taste the 2008 in bottle at Margaux second growth Château Rauzan-Ségla, and president John Kolasa had just been showing some samples of 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot from vat to another winemaker. I snuck into the château kitchen and tried the inky baby samples. John said that the wines had more tannins than 2009, the most tannic ever until now, and they had more freshness and acidity. He says that they may be a super 2005, and they will be built for aging. The potential seems amazing. I can’t wait to taste hundreds of them from barrel in March. It was a breathtaking experience.
