Spain: La Rioja — Artadi’s El Pisón Vineyard

Wednesday, August 15, 2018

Artadi is one of the most prestigious wineries of La Rioja. Located in La Rioja Alavesa, Artadi's vineyards are at high altitudes, producing more linear and elegant wines. The winery was founded in 1985 by a collective of winemakers from the Laguardia village determined to produce the best wine in the region. Today, they own more than 70 hectares of vineyards in La Rioja Alavesa and also make wine in Navarra with Artazu and in Alicante with El Sequé.

In this video, Carlos López de Lacalle, co-owner and export manager, comments on one of estate’s flagship wines - the single vineyard El Pisón. The vineyard was planted by the owner’s grandfather in 1945 and is only pure tempranillo on clay limestone soils at 480 meters. The owners believe that pure tempranillo is necessary to show and express the different terroirs of Rioja.
