Tablas Creek: The Wine

Monday, November 14, 2011

Tablas Creek is one of the leaders in the Paso Robles region of California’s Central Coast. The wines – both red and white – are reminiscent of top bottles from France’s Southern Rhone, relying mostly on Mouvedre, Grenache and Syrah as well as Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier. It should come as no surprise, since the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape are part owners along with their US importer, Robert Hass.

I first visited the Tablas Creek vineyard earlier this fall (click here to see the video), and I then went to the winery for an extensive tasting with winemaker Neil Collins. Neil is a straight-talking Englishman with a passion for balanced wines. Watch what he has to say about his wine and California wines in general.
