James Suckling recently met with Chateau Petrus winemaker Olivier Berrouet to taste his 2020 vintage as part of James' Bordeaux 2020 tasting report.
"It's so impressive – the quality of tannins, the length... and then it just blossoms like a flower, or I was saying it was like butterfly wings," James said.
Olivier said their goal "was to find the right balance between the aromatic side of the wine and the structure." Without the structure in 2020, he said, "the wine would be too soft," adding that "we don't want it to be overpowering because if that happens it will dominate the aromatic side of the wine."
