In this first video of our series on 2011 vintage Port, Emiliano Di Renzo of Graham's explains the difference between tawny Port, ruby Port and vintage Port.
Vintage Port is considered to be the best, and just like ruby Port, it's aged in large vats with little wood contact. Tawny Port, however, is aged in small casks, and as a result has much more contact with the wood.
Vintage Port is also not filtered before it's bottled, which as Emiliano points out, is why it ages so well. Ruby and tawny Port, on the other hand, are both filtered, meaning they won't change or age once bottled.
