In Case You Missed It: Originally posted December 13, 2010

It’s interesting how everybody always talks about the Moueix family’s Petrus, when Trotanoy can make wines equally as unique and compelling. Each time I visit the vineyard, I am so impressed with the stony soil and beautiful vines. A blend of about 90 percent Merlot, and the rest in Cabernet Franc, makes a firm and racy wine that really only gives you its true quality after about 10 years in bottle (in a top vintage). This September, I walked the vineyards with owner Christian Moueix, who also controls such Pomerol names as Lafleur Petrus and Providence as well as California’s Dominus. Of course, the 2000 and 2005 Trotanoy are top quality but the 2003 is also outstanding, even though that was such a hot growing season. And the 2009 is amazing. I can’t wait to try it in bottle next year!
