[Watch] Great Wines of Italy Asia 2019: Event video

Monday, December 9, 2019

The most successful Great Wines of Italy event series we have ever put on concluded last week, bringing Italy’s best wines to Phuket, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Beijing. And what an event it was!

Around 5,000 attendees came to the events across these four cities to taste the wines of more than 150 premium Italian producers. Our Wine of the Year 2019 - the Siro Pacenti Brunello Di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne 2015 - was being poured, as were two hundred-plus other wines of fantastic quality, from Brunellos and Barolos to Super Tuscans and Barbarescos, to Amarones and Chianti Classicos. You can read about many of them in our Top 100 Wines of Italy 2019 report, which we announced during the Bangkok event.

In total we tasted around 6,400 Italian wines this year, and while the 2015 Brunellos were of a standout quality, we were also impressed with several other regions, including those from the south.

“With this growing demand for Italian wine, next year we will be in Seoul as well as Bangkok, Hong Kong and Beijing. Seoul is new - it’s really exciting. They love Italian food, after Korean food it’s number one in Seoul, so it’s all going to be dynamite next year,” said James Suckling, CEO and editor at JamesSuckling.com.
