[WATCH] Spain tasting trip, 2019

This summer James, his wife Marie, his son Jack and Senior Editor Nick Stock spent 10 days in Rioja, Spain, tasting more than 2,100 wines at the Hotel Viura. They discovered a new classicism on the rise, with modern, transparent winemaking to the fore. There are still a lot of jammy wines being produced, but that didn't detract from the excellence that's on offer in the country these days, and it's improving with each year of new releases; wines of outstanding quality from key regions as well as lesser-known ones.
