Senior editor Zekun Shuai’s Wine Crush this week is the Olivier Riviere Grand Puy 2022, a bold and fascinating debut Bordeaux from a winemaker better known for his Rioja wines. This single-vineyard merlot, grown on limestone clay in Cotes de Bourg, incorporates 30 percent whole clusters and is aged in 50 percent new oak barrels and 50 percent concrete eggs. Despite the challenges of Bordeaux’s hot and dry 2022 vintage, this wine delivers excellent freshness and tension. This full-bodied red is full of energy, with vibrant tannins. It's a powerful yet place-sensitive expression of merlot that’s impossible to ignore. Enjoy!
