Yquem: 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009

Saturday, December 31, 2011

Château d'Yquem is the sweet wine legend and deservingly so. It’s amazing to taste such a wine that can balance such concentrated sweetness with fabulous acidity and texture.

I have tasted and consumed Yquems from the early 17th Century that were phenomenal. The wines of Yquem seem to never die. I think that some of the great modern classics such as 2001, 2003, and perhaps 2009 will go down in the history books of great wine in the same light as such wines as 1921, 1929, 1947, 1959, and 1967.

I went to the chateau last year during the harvest and I tasted five vintages. The 2009 was still in barrel. I was really impressed with the year. It might be another perfect wine like the 2001. Check out my tasting with president of Yquem, Pierre Lurton, and his team.
