$15 wines that taste like $50: Chilean pinot noir

5 TASTING NOTES
Wednesday, Mar 11, 2020

In our mission to spread the love of good wine as far and as deep as possible, this new series of articles on JamesSuckling.com picks out the best value wines around the world. Every year the JamesSuckling.com tasting team travels the globe to find the best bottles from each of the major wine-producing countries. We also strive to discover neglected gems -- the most wallet-friendly bottles that you can effortlessly drink (or gulp) daily.

For most of us, opening a $50 wine is a special event, and not something that occurs daily. But there are some wines that taste like $50 while only costing a fraction of that price. The trick is to explore the top vintages of moderately priced regions, and of course, to think alternatively.

We are starting this series with five well-crafted wines from Chile. They will only cost you around $15 each (prices may vary), but they are as good as $50 bottles from other more established regions.

Chile is known for wines that offer incredible quality. It also has a full spectrum of wine styles that can suit most cellars. Casablanca, a cool-climate region not far from the coast, is the new hub for fine Chilean pinot noir. The best examples here combine a depth of flavors with ethereal and nuanced forest-berry aromas. What’s more, you don’t have to wait a long time before sitting back to enjoy them. Here are five of the top-value bottles we found from Casablanca that you can pop and pour right now.
