1964 R. Lopez de Heredia Viña Tondonia Rioja Gran Reserva Blanco

This wine brings back memories. I remember first tasting this in 1983 in the dark and damp cellars of Lopez de Heredia on my first trip to Rioja to visit wineries. It has amazingly not changed. This could still be the greatest dry white wine ever made in Spain. Maybe next year I will know better when I start tasting Spanish wines with my team?  It's fresh and surges even though apparently it spent 10 years in barrel before bottling. I have always been puzzled by the yellow color. So young. Aromas of sliced lemon, chalk, apple pie, and dried peach. So chalky. Full-bodied and phenolic with a chewy texture and superb finish. Mind-blowing. Suspended animation. 100 points.
