Tasting Report: 150 Amazing 2009 Barolos That You Can Enjoy Now

150 TASTING NOTES
Sunday, Jan 12, 2014

I have been drinking 2009 Barolo over the past few months following my first report on 60 exceptional Barolos.

I am really enjoying their bright and fruit-forward character. Their bold acidity and ripe tannins give them great tension and definition. They are lively and drinkable now.

Barolo legend, Roberto Vorezio, said it's the ripe fruit in the wines that makes them standout. "We had a very hot stage in early August that gave the grapes great ripeness but then it was cool and fresh the rest of the season as well as during the harvest."

Overall, I think that 2008 made slightly more complex Barolos than 2009, but the 2009s are not far off. By comparison, the superb 2007s are shutting down now, so I suggest decanting before serving or just leave the 2007s in your cellars. Pass on the 2006s for the most part. Click on the video to the left for to view Part 1 of my 2007 interview of acclaimed Barolo producer, Roberto Voerzio, and understand his passion for winemaking.

I am now posting 150 outstanding Barolos that earned 90 points of better. I hope you enjoy them.
