Strong Showing for Hong Kong in 2025 Star Wine List Asia Awards

Hong Kong restaurants earned a wide range of honors at this year’s Star Wine List of the Year Asia awards, underscoring the city’s continued influence as a wine destination in the region. From long-established fine dining institutions to newer, more casual concepts, the results reflect both depth and diversity in how wine is presented across the city’s dining scene.

Bar Cyclone, a vibrant and informal wine bar in Central, stood out with a Gold Star in the Best By the Glass List category. It shared the award with Bangkok’s Inddee, with judges noting how the two venues serve very different audiences yet both offer well-executed and thoughtful glass programs. Bar Cyclone was recognized for its broad international selection at accessible price points – something not always easy to achieve in Hong Kong.

The city’s flagship fine dining rooms also featured prominently. Both Caprice and Gaddi’s, located in long-established hotels, earned Silver Stars in the Best Long List category, praised for their extensive cellars and well-maintained inventories of top producers from around the world.

Hong Kong’s medium-sized lists – those with 200 to 600 references – also earned praise. Bar CycloneChesa and Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic were among those awarded Silver Stars for programs that balance range and clarity. These lists often reflect the personality of the venue while still offering breadth and thoughtful curation.

James Suckling Wine Central was awarded a Silver Star in the Best By the Glass List category.

Several restaurants were recognized in the Best Short List category, where fewer than 200 labels are featured. Associazione ChiantiBelonEmblaHo Lee Fook and Prince and the Peacock all earned Silver Stars. These venues have shown that a shorter list, if well constructed, can still cover stylistic range and offer meaningful choices for guests.

James Suckling Wine Central was also acknowledged with a Silver Star in the Best By the Glass List category. Its rotating by-the-glass program, which focuses on highly rated wines from a variety of regions, reflects a curated and quality-driven approach.

Two relatively new additions to the city – Prince and the Peacock and SILÈNE – were awarded Silver Stars in the Best Newcomer List category. Both venues have put a clear emphasis on the wine experience from the outset, something that continues to matter in a competitive dining landscape.

Judges in the competition were, from left to right: Salvatore Castano, Stefan Neumann MS, Stephen Wong MW and Reeze Choi.

Sustainability was also a focus. La Cabane and Crushed Wine Bar + Retail received recognition in the Sustainable Wine List category, which evaluates the overall impact of a venue’s wine program, from sourcing to packaging.

Finally, Tosca Di Angelo was awarded Silver Stars in two separate categories – Best Sparkling Wine List and Best Italian Wine List – reinforcing its deep focus on both Champagne and Italian producers.

These awards highlight how Hong Kong’s wine scene continues to evolve, offering not just size and selection, but more curated, purpose-driven lists that reflect the city’s diverse and knowledgeable wine community.
